Village Types

A lot of players would think that building every type of city is the way to go, but this is essentially not true. Here are multiple reasons for this. For one you would have to research every different kind of tech in order to get full production in every city. You may think also that having every type of city will allow you to banquet easier, but you will still have to transport all the different kinds of banqueting goods to one village taking up time. Its best to just focus on a few different kinds of villages or even just build only one kind of village.

A balanced location with plenty of usable space and no drawbacks

The lowland village is probably the best village type to use. It is the default village type you start off with meaning you won’t have to convert it. The main reason it is so good is the fact that it has a large amount of lumber, stone and a decent amount of iron meaning you can make enough to keep building in your village as well as produce a lot of weapons. The other main reason it is such a good choice is the fact that you can make 5 different kinds of food in this village allowing you to run high rations all day long while getting a ton of honour and it also allows you to regenerate your population quickly when you use a lot of your population training troops. I would recommend sticking with this village layout for all your villages if you really want to create a very strong presence in stronghold kingdoms.

A good mix of resources, plus the rocky outcrops help castle defence; However, usable space is a little limited.

The highland village type gives you a lot of different resources to work with meaning you can sell a lot and make a lot of gold. The big drawback is the space. Although iron mines and such take up very small amounts of space, you will find here that after you have placed the major buildings such as churches you won’t have a whole to to work with for placing weapon production buildings compared to other village types. I would recommend this village type only if you keep 30+ traders in your village and you can sell the excess resources constantly. This village type should only be used as a means of generating large amounts of gold very fast.

Iron is plentiful in a this mountain-top stronghold, and the terrain offers better castle defence, but it comes at the expense of usable space.

The mountain peak type village is another that you can gain absolutely massive amounts of gold off every day. Because you gain a production bonus to iron you will find yourself making so much every day you just can’t sell it quick enough. This village type will allow you to do the donation quests very quickly as iron packets are only 200, while lumber and stone are 1,000. You will make about 68,000 iron a day here with full bonuses meaning selling and donating iron will never be a problem. I would recommend this type early in the game if you want to get the maximum price for your iron. You can pretty much crash the iron price and all the markets around you. Another big bonus from this city is the castle defences. Part of your walls will be surrounded by rock formations meaning enemy troops cannot pass these and it makes part of your castle inaccessible.

Limited resources here are made up for by the benefits the river brings.

Fish and spices are two things that will nearly always sell for a very high price at the markets. But this village layout has some serious drawbacks. The limited resources are a huge problem. You need big lumber and stone production in all your villages, that’s just the way it is. But here it’s just too limited to make this village type a viable choice.

Limited resources here are made up for by the benefits the river brings.

As with the river 1 village type, although you can make some goods here that are scarce at markets and you can sell them for high prices the fact that lumber and stone is limited here does not make this a good village type to use.

Salt

The only place to collect salt. Limited resources and some usable space limitations.

Salt flats allow the production of salt, an honour good that sells very high at markets and is hard to forage. The big drawback with this type of village is the space. It’s very small. A large section of the area is taken up by the salt flat. Resources are also quite limited. This would be a very good village type if the area was much bigger because you get a good boost to clothes production but because it is not very big it’s not a great choice of village type.

Pitch is abundant here, although wood and stone are scarce.

The marsh village type has a lot of things going in its favour. The production bonus to pitch here is huge so you can sell it and make a massive amount of gold. Also it’s the only village type that you can get a bonus to catapult production in. The space is quite limited here but I would recommend it as a village type early in the game to build up gold very quickly and also catapults.

Wheat grows very well on the plains, but the vast space comes at the cost of reduced resources.

To be honest the plains village type is pretty pointless to have. The main reason is that you get a large area with which to make food in, however food sells very cheap at markets meaning you will be stuck with a huge amount of food that you can sell for practically nothing. Also there are limited lumber and stone here. In my opinion it’s probably the worst choice of village type, stay clear of it.

Wine

A perfect site for growing vines, slightly limited resources but plenty of usable space.

Valley side villages allow the production of wine. But as with a lot of the other village types your lumber and stone production is quite limited which is a huge drawback.

Wood is everywhere here and grows strongly but other resources are limited.

The forest village type gives you a crazy boost to a few different things. Lumber, venison and furniture production here can be so big you can make an absolute fortune of selling it. The space is a bit of a drawback here as a lot of the area if taken up with forest but as a source of generating a lot of gold this village type is a good choice.
