Stone Structures

Towers cannot be places directly beside each other, there must be at least a 1 square gap. They should form the bulk of your defence and you should start building them as quickly as possible

Great Towers

Max per castle As many as you can fit
Parish building required None
Tile size 5 x 5

Great towers should make up the bulk of your defence and castle structure. Enemy infantry cannot knock down towers like they can stone walls. Towers must be destroyed by catapults. Towers tale a huge amount of fire to take down though and unless the enemy has fast firing catapults and a large number of them, they can take a very long time to break down.

Large Towers

Max per castle As many as you can fit
Parish building required None
Tile size 4 x 4

Large towers can withstand a good deal of damage but not nearly as much as great towers. Try to place these only when you cannot fit great towers in your city.

Small Towers

Max per castle As many as you can fit
Parish building required None
Tile size 3 x 3

Small towers can withstand some damage but not nearly as much as great towers or large towers. These should only be placed when you do not have room for the other 2.

Lookout Towers

Max per castle As many as you can fit
Parish building required None
Tile size 2 x 2

Lookout towers are the weakest of all the towers and should only be placed when you do not have room to fit any of the other 3 kinds of towers.

Stone Walls

Max per castle As many as you can fit
Parish building required None
Tile size 1 x 1

Because towers cannot be placed directly beside each other, you must have at least a 1 tile gap between them, you have to fill the gap with either stone walls or moats. Stone walls crumble very easily under heavy fire from catapults and can also be knocked down by infantry but they do provide a barrier for some time against attack and build quickly.

Stone Gatehouses

Max per castle As many as you can fit
Parish building required None
Tile size 3 x 3

Each castle must have at least one entrance that leads to the keep. You can make the pathway into the keep as intricate as you want. The gatehouse is a lot like stone walls in terms of its defence, it falls very quickly under heavy catapult fire but it is necessary to have one.
